Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad criticized the world's most powerful countries for expanding their atomic arsenals while attempting to stop the progress of other nations toward ``peaceful nuclear energy.''

``The expansion of nuclear arms by oppressing powers is continuing and other nations' peaceful nuclear activities are being condemned by these very countries through accusations that they are being aimed at constructing nuclear weapons,'' Ahmadinejad said today in a speech broadcast live on Iranian state television.

The president was addressing a gathering of foreign ministers from the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran.
